Psi Chi

Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology with over a half-million lifetime members, for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS). Psi Chi chapters are located at about 1,100 senior colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean, Ireland, and New Zealand.

Psi Chi serves two major goals – the first of these is the Society’s obligation to provide academic recognition to its inductees by the mere fact of membership. The second goal is the obligation of each of the Society’s local chapters to nurture the spark of that accomplishment by offering a climate congenial to members’ creative development. In addition, Psi Chi offers access to conventions, internships, and grants for research.

Psi Chi at Carthage works closely with groups such as the Neuroscience Club, Active Minds, and the Psychology Club on campus to bring understanding and opportunities to the Carthage community. We accomplish this through educational events, fundraisers, and through the discussion which naturally occurs when students with like interests get together.

Requirements for membership

Membership is open to undergraduate men and women who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests. This includes psychology as a major, minor, or concentration. Members must meet the minimum qualifications:

• Top third of graduating class
• Must have completed at least two psychology courses
• Must be enrolled in at least their fourth semester in college

Throughout the academic year, Psi Chi hosts various campus and organizational events, including:

• Movie screenings and discussions
• Group picnics
• Psychological t-shirt sales
• Relevant speakers
• Life after Carthage speakers and presentations
